Bridgend College photography lecturer Aled Hughes recently re-visited Mametz Wood, 100 years on from the battle during World War One. Having first visited back in 2009, his photography project has focused on the signs of war still visible throughout the wood.

“I was immediately taken hold of by the place, or rather the place took hold of me,” Aled said. “The place seemed to have an atmosphere that I wanted to get across. I was there and although I was in France I felt like I was in Wales, there was a connection.”

His photos are part of an exhibition at the National Library of Wales, which runs until 3 December 2016.
