Our Team

Sam Morgan, Director of People

Part of my early education was completed at Bridgend College and it is this grounding that opened up a range of opportunities and career paths to me. This is one of the many reasons I feel privileged to work here.

In my role, I work with people across the organisation to ensure the organisation climate is one where people can thrive and prosper.

Over the years I have developed an extensive background in Human Resource Management across a wide range of sectors, including Education, Housing, Life Sciences and Manufacturing. Some of the organisations I have worked for include GE Healthcare, Tata Steel, University of Wales Trinity St David, Coastal Housing and Panasonic.

Bridgend College sparked a passion in me and I can be described as a ‘lifelong learner’. I am fortunate enough to hold a number of Masters level qualifications, including an MA in Professional Development and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and Training. I am a Fellow of both the Higher Education Academy and of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development. I am also a fully qualified coach and mentor.

Catherine Luff, Human Resources Manager

Hello, I’m Cath, the HR Manager here at the College. I joined in January 2017 and have to recommend all the staff here for making the past 2½ years so enjoyable!

My background has been in Local Government and Probation Services for the last 20+ years and I have a real interest and passion for Employee Wellbeing, promoting high performance and supporting staff to achieve their best.

I would be really interested in hearing from staff in relation to anything they think would make their employment here more enriching and for HR to be an open, approachable place that you can pop into. My contact details are X 287 and cluff@bridgend.ac.uk . Hope to catch up with you soon.

Emma Williams, HR and Systems Officer

Having worked for the College for over 25 years, I bring a lot of knowledge and experience to our team. I currently have responsibility for the Day Nursery, Learner Services, Weston House and the Additional Learning support teams.

I also provide system support for our HR database which managers access via MyTeam and staff access via MyPage. This means that I am your go to person if at anytime you are experiencing difficulties.

I have also recently achieved my Google Level 2 certified educator badge, so if you need any help with Google just give me a call.

Lucy Webb, HR Officer

I joined the college in June 2017 as a HR Apprentice, studying Level 5 CIPD in Applied Human Resources. Following completion of the qualification I secured the role of HR Assistant, and now I am a HR Officer.  In 2018, I won a CIPD Wales award for ‘Emerging HR Practitioner’. I’m passionate about making a difference.

I take the lead on recruitment within the team, and I am also the HR lead for most of our Business Support teams such as Finance, Marketing, IT Support, Health, Safety and Sustainability, and Refectory/Catering Services. I’m always happy to help, so if you have any queries at all just get in touch!

Kathryn Adams, Learning and Development Advisor

Hi, I’m Kathryn and I am the Learning and Development Advisor for the College and based in the HR office.

In my role I can help with any staff Learning and Development queries or opportunities you want to pursue. I also work closely with our Teaching and Learning coaches and Digital coaches, helping to organise any training they may be facilitating. I co-ordinate the majority of our CPD days and other training events along with being the key contact for any SkillGate queries. I am always happy to help where I can even if you just want a quick chat.

Anything you need let me know!!

Melanie Long, HR Officer

I joined Bridgend College in September 2016, allowing me the opportunity to pursue my career and develop professionally with flexible working and balancing this with bringing up a family. This means I truly aim to give the best of myself in all situations. I have gained extensive experience in the public sector across a wide range of different HR activities, working for King’s College London, Consumer Focus, Environment Agency Wales and Vale of Glamorgan Council.

I am passionate about people and enabling everyone to enjoy their time in work. I admire and value the part that each of us play as individuals to make Bridgend College work together. I provide support for staff in the departments of Care and Childhood Studies, Services to People, IT and Skills, but am always happy to help if anyone has any queries.

Emma Walker, Staff Wellbeing Officer, HR

I am the HR lead for staff wellbeing across the College and am the person that you would be most likely to speak to if you telephone to report an absence in the morning.

The main purpose of my role is to support staff who are experiencing difficulties with their physical or mental health.

I am also responsible for organising activities to help staff improve their wellbeing such as the wellbeing CPD day, flu vaccinations, counselling referrals etc.

If you would like to have a chat about the support available, then please get in touch and I will do all I can to help.

Callum Griffiths-Barlow, HR Officer

Hello! I’m Callum and I joined the HR team at Bridgend College in April 2020 as HR Officer.

I have been in HR now for nearly 4 years, having previously worked in the Arts and Hospitality sectors before moving into Education.

I have a passion for helping people reach their full potential and strive to make the time an employee spends at work both enjoyable and fulfilling.

If you have any queries or just need to chat then please let me know!

I have been employed by Bridgend College for over 20 years. In that time I have educated and hopefully inspired over 2000 learners. I undeniably ‘live the dream’ in my role as Lecturer in Equine Studies. Bridgend College is a very good employer, always willing to support my career development and progression.

Proud to be a part of Bridgend College, it served me well when I studied my apprenticeship here. Glad I can pass on my expertise to present and future generations.
