Leading the way for Wales.
Bridgend College are once again delighted to be named as finalists for another highly prestigious award.
Deputy Principal Viv Buckley has recently been shortlisted for the Leading Wales Awards’ ‘Leadership in the Public Sector’ category, an award that recognises and celebrates personal achievement in outstanding leadership, panning the whole of Wales.
The Leading Wales Awards, in their 14th year this year, were established by a consortium of professional institutes, private companies and voluntary and public sector bodies. There are 8 categories that make up the Leading Wales Awards, 7 of which recognise personal achievement in leadership.
Speaking about her nomination, Viv said;
“Being shortlisted for the Leading Wales Award is a real honour. It’s lovely to be nominated and even nicer to be shortlisted! It has been a great opportunity to reflect on my leadership journey and all of the people I have worked alongside and learnt so much from, especially in my time as Deputy Principal at Bridgend College where there is a real team ethos.”
Viv recently spent some time in South Africa representing Bridgend College as part of a collaborative project with British Council Wales and Lovedale College, South Africa, where they spent their time visiting and inspiring local schools and colleges in the area.
The Leading Wales Awards have included the addition of the ‘Inspiring Great Leadership (Organisational Award)’ for 2018, for which Bridgend College are delighted to have been named as a finalist.
Sponsored by The Institute of Leadership and Management, this is an award for an organisation from any sector that has implemented successful engagement strategies that aim to improve the leadership skills of its employees and volunteers.
As well as outstanding learner success, Bridgend College also prides itself on the tremendous achievements of its staff, all of whom contribute to the overall success of the College. This year alone, the College has been awarded many highly regarded accolades. This includes being verified as the Best Performing FE College for all qualifications in the whole of Wales. The information comes from a study conducted by the Welsh Government which puts Bridgend College at the top of the league table for all qualifications, with a success rate of 90.4%.
In April, Bridgend College was voted the Best FE College in the WhatUni Student Choice Awards, as well as being proud winners of the RSM Award for Leadership and Governance from the Association of Colleges’ Beacon Award in 2017. Viv herself was also shortlisted for the ‘Chwarae Teg Womenspire Awards’ Woman in Education Award in 2017.
Bridgend College are extremely proud of Viv and all staff who have made their nomination possible.
Winners of the Leading Wales Award will be announced at an awards ceremony which will take place at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff on Thursday 27 September.
