Transport Maintenance

About

This course will develop skills in both light and heavy vehicle. During the course, you will have the opportunity to work in both areas to allow progression to a range of apprentice opportunities or further studies in either heavy vehicle which are trucks, buses and construction equipment or light vehicle which is working on cars or vans.

Overview & Modules

You will learn, develop and practice the skills required in the automotive sector.

Modules include:

  • Working safely in vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Vehicle construction and routine maintenance
  • Vehicle tyres, brakes, steering and suspension systems
  • Vehicle engine systems
  • Engine liquid cooling and lubrication systems
  • Vehicle electrical skills

You will also be expected to study additional qualifications to enhance your future prospects, such as GCSEs in English Language and Mathematics.

You will develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include assignments, case studies and continual class assessment.

Entry requirements

  • You will need GCSE Mathematics at Grade D and 3 other GCSEs at grade E or above including English
  • You will attend an interview with the course tutor

Continue your studies

The course covers the foundation skills necessary for progression into Light and/or Heavy Vehicle (Truck and Bus) Maintenance and Repair. Successful completion will enable you to progress to a Modern Apprenticeship or Level 2 course.
