Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

You will study at our state-of-the art STEAM Academy at Pencoed Campus.

Interested in how things work and want a job where you can help shape and develop the future? You will gain technical knowledge and develop practical skills to suit the modern industry sector of electrical / electronic, mechanical and manufacturing engineering.

Our practical learning areas include labs for pneumatics and hydraulics along with workshops for electrical / electronic and mechanical engineering, motor vehicle and plant maintenance.

The aim of this course is to allow you to extend knowledge and skills developed at Level 1.

Modules may include:

  • Health, safety and good housekeeping
  • Knowledge of materials, fabric, tools and measuring
  • Routine vehicle maintenance
  • Remove and replace vehicle auxiliary
  • Electrical units and components
  • Remove and replace vehicle chassis units and components
  • Remove and replace vehicle transmission and driveline units and components
  • Conduct work vehicle inspections

You will also develop a number of essential skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include assignments, case studies and continual class assessment.

GCSE Mathematics at grade C and three other GCSEs at grade D or above including English and Science.

You will learn, develop and practice a wide range of skills which are required for employment and / or career progression within the Automotive Sector.

You could progress into Light and / or Heavy Vehicle (Truck and Bus) Maintenance and Repair Modern Apprenticeship or a Level 3 course.
