Have you thought about a career in the police, armed forces, ambulance, fire or rescue services? Public services is a huge employment source with more than 5.4 million people working in the public sector across the UK.

Our courses will help you develop the personal qualities which the public services require. Communication and personal responsibility are key attributes for any career in the uniformed professions.

This course will prepare you for the environment of the Emergency, Uniformed and Public Services. This course is equivalent to 3 A Levels with the majority of the time classroom-based. However, practical learning is employed where possible in order to enrich and vary the learning experience. Some units are based on outdoor skills and require a positive attitude to new and often challenging environments.

Guest speakers are invited to give an up-to-date, relevant and stimulating insight to the work of uniformed careers.

You will have the opportunity to go on trips to further enrich your experience. Past visits have included Normandy, North Wales and many overnight outdoor experiences.

Modules may include:

  • Understanding discipline leadership and teamwork in Public Services
  • Crime and its effects and Police powers
  • Skills for land-based outdoor and adventurous activities
  • Citizenship, diversity and the Public Services
  • Government policies and the Public Services
  • Career preparation for the Public Services
  • Physical preparation, health and lifestyle for the Public Services
  • Land and water navigation

You will also develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include assignments, external examinations, case studies, practical assessment and continual class assessment.

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably including English and Maths. Equivalent qualifications are accepted, including a Merit at Level 2.

Successful completion of the first year will enable you to achieve the Level 3 90 Credit Diploma.

Progress to Year 2 to achieve the full Level 3 Extended Diploma Public Services, which can gain you a career in Public Services such as the Police, Fire and Prison services and the Armed Forces.

Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Extended Diploma, progress to the HND Public Services.
