Our Supported Internship programme is an innovative and exciting opportunity for young people with additional learning needs to learn and gain real time work-based experiences, delivered in collaboration with Engage to Change, Elite Supported Employment Agency and Project Search.

This full-time programme is based within a host employers premises with interns undertaking three work placements across the year. Each placement rotation lasts for 10-12 weeks and interns are fully supported by a college tutor and qualified job coaches.

Each working day starts with a one hour classroom-based session which covers key learning including:

  • Health and safety in the workplace
  • Communication
  • Healthy lifestyle and being fit for work
  • Interview skills
  • CV writing
  • Dress to impress
  • Budgeting skills
  • Independent travel and job search skills

Interns will meet at the end of each working day for an hour of classroom-based debrief and reflection. The internship programme is designed to be a student’s final year in education and training with the aim of securing paid employment at the end of the programme. Interns will be supported beyond the life of the programme by Elite Supported Employment Agency to ensure they receive the support they need to search, apply and secure paid employment.

The Supported Internship programme is full-time and runs Monday-Friday from 9 am – 4 pm and is open to a maximum of 10 learners.

All assessment will be carried out via the internship programme based within the employer.

At least one year studying on a pre-vocational / independent living skills programme within the College.
