014104 – NPTC Level 2 Award in the Transport of Animals by Road (short journeys)
If you are involved in the transportation of animals by road for short journeys (over 65 km and up to 8 hours duration), this qualification will ensure you meet the requirement for a Certificate of Competence outlined in the Council Regulation (EC) No1/2005 on the Protection of Animals During Transport and the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006.
Overview and modules
The qualification is species specific (eg cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, horses, game birds).
It covers the legal requirements, journey planning, vehicle suitability, fitness to travel, causes and signs of stress in animals, space allowances, stocking densities, handling and animal welfare in transit and post journey requirements.
Assessment methods
Multiple choice computer-based test (e-volve).
Entry requirements
You must be aged 16 or above and register for this course at least 3 days before it commences with full details of the species you wish to take your test with.
The course price includes one species choice; other species can be added on at an additional cost.
