Our music qualifications are designed to provide relevant education in contemporary music, aimed at beginners through to semi-professionals.

If you would like to start your career in Music Performance or Music Production and gain confidence with your instrument, then this is the course for you. The program is designed to develop skills and confidence with music through a range of disciplines.

Follow in the footsteps of former Bridgend College learners: musician Michael Padge (Bullet For My Valentine), songwriter Corey Sanders (Calum Scott, Katy Perry), and record producer Jim Anderson (The Enemy, The View).

RSL has previously had Ed Sheeran, Rita Ora, and Jess Glynne study the vocational route at other UK institutions.

Throughout the year, you will have workshops by songwriters and music producers, as well as music trips to support your education. This course is designed to be as practical as possible, giving you the opportunity to collaborate, build confidence and work as individuals.

Throughout the 2 year course, you will study:

  • How to rehearse and perform in a variety of live situations
  • Instrumental studies and health
  • Refinement of your instrument
  • Music theory
  • How to operate a state of the art recording studio (mixing and remixing production)
  • How to compose and sequence music using software
  • How to compose and arrange music to film
  • Understanding the music business

All these skills are essential for you to become a successful musician, sound engineer, film audio or record producer.

The awarding body for this qualification is RSL.

In the first two weeks of September all students are assessed on performance, music theory and academic writing to determine which level they will be on.
