Th qualification is achieved through a mix of learning in the workplace, formal off the job training (at college) and the opportunity to practice and embed new skills in a real work context. On completion, you must be able to undertake the full range of duties, appropriate to your job, confidently and competently to the standard set by the Industry.

Overview & Modules
The Engineering Apprenticeship framework is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to carry out your job role and support future progression within the sector. You will be employed and receive at least the minimum apprenticeship wage. You will attend college on a day release basis and should achieve the Level three Apprenticeship Framework within the agreed timescale.
Please note, this Framework is for Apprentices who have completed the full-time first year engineering programme and applicants will have achieved Performing Engineering Operations Level 2, Year 1 BTEC L3 Diploma Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering and Essential Skills/Key Skills in Communications, Application of Number, Information and Communication Technology, Working with Others and Improving Own Learning.

This apprenticeship can be tailored to meet the requirements for Skilled Machinist, Skilled Fitter job roles. Skilled Machinist – Machine components by applying a variety of removal and shaping techniques such as boring; cutting; drilling; milling; grinding and lapping. Skilled Fitter – Assembly of mechanical equipment and related systems to required specifications.
These programmes are part financed by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be made through coursework, tests, assignments, work-based observations and work-based evidence.
Entry requirements
- Five GCSEs (A* – C) including English, Maths and Science (Grade B in Maths is preferable)
- NVQ L2 Diploma Performing Engineering Operations
- Essential Skills/Key Skills
- BTEC L3 Year 1 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (QCF) OR
- BTEC L3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering (QCF)
