Interested in how things work and want a job where you can help shape and develop the future? You will gain technical knowledge and develop practical skills to suit the modern industry sector of electrical / electronic, mechanical and manufacturing engineering.
Our practical learning areas include labs for pneumatics and hydraulics along with workshops for electrical / electronic and mechanical engineering, motor vehicle and plant maintenance.
Overview and modules
You will learn detailed knowledge and understanding of the skills needed for a career in the mechanical engineering sector.

You will also complete modules from Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) suitable to the modules being studied above.
You will develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.
The awarding body for this qualification is EAL.
Assessment methods
You will be assessed in a variety of ways which will include assignments, external examinations, case studies and continual class assessment.
Entry requirements
4 GCSEs at grade C or above including Mathematics and English, and preferably Science.
Continue your studies
After successful completion of the Subsidiary Diploma, you will be able to apply to progress to the full Diploma or Extended Diploma. If you have gained employment as an apprentice, you can transfer onto the part-time apprenticeship route.
Following successful completion of the full Diploma, you can apply for a number of higher education courses such as HNC Engineering, You can also pursue a career in building services or manufacturing.

Our state of the art STEAM Academy is an exciting new building with teaching, learning and support facilities for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
The Academy will be a flagship for showcasing 21st century teaching and learning, bringing economic and cultural growth to the Bridgend County Borough area.
This campus is home to an extensive range of subject areas: Land-based, Construction, Sport and Public Services along with our STEAM Academy for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. The campus has great facilities such as a 3G sports pitch, modern equine areas, sports hall and conditioning gym. Located on the outskirts of the village of Pencoed, this campus also offers local amenities and transport links within easy reach.
