About

This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for career development in sport specific employment or progression into higher education.

Overview & Modules

The two year program includes the Level 3 Introductory Diploma in Sports Studies, and will provide underpinning knowledge of the sport industry with progression to the specialism of Sport Massage and Therapies.

Year 1 modules may include:

  • Anatomy and physiology for sport
  • Lifestyle factors
  • Risk assessment in sport
  • Sports leadership
  • Massage for sport and exercise Internal
  • Injuries in sport

Year 2 modules may include:

  • Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
  • Professional practice in sports massage
  • Assessment for sports massage
  • Sports massage treatment
  • Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
  • Health and lifestyle
  • Applying hot and cold techniques in sport and active leisure
  • Applying taping and strapping to support and limit specific movement in sport and active leisure
  • Nutrition

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include assignments, external examinations, case studies and continual class assessment.

Entry requirements

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably including English and Maths (equivalent qualifications are accepted including a Merit at Level 2)
  • You will also need to attend an interview.

Continue your studies

Upon successful completion of the 2 years, you may progress to employment with a recognised qualification within the sport industry or continue your studies at higher education level.

Internal progression for the employment route at Level 4 and 5 part-time is available with Bridgend College.
