Aims of the course
Know basic anatomy needed for manicures and pedicures
- Identify the structure of nails
- Identify the basic anatomy of areas of massage
Know health and safety measures required for manicures and pedicures
Outline:
- Reasons for good hygiene practices when providing manicures and pedicures
- Possible contraindications of manicures and pedicures
- Possible contraindications of massaging arms, hands, legs and feet
- Measures to deal with incidents resulting from manicures and pedicures
Be able to provide care for cuticles during manicures and pedicures
- Apply appropriate products to cuticles during pedicures and manicures
- Push back cuticle
- Use cuticle knife correctly
- Use cuticle nippers
Be able to provide nail care during pedicures and manicures
- Use correct filing method during pedicures and manicures
- Apply buffing cream
- Use correct techniques for buffing
Be able to carry out massages
- Perform arm and hand massages
- Perform foot and leg massages
- Demonstrate full range of massage movements
Be able to apply nail enamel during manicures and pedicures
Apply:
- Base coat
- Nail enamel
- Top coat
Assessment
Ongoing assessment with evidence of achieving the aims of the course.
