You will study at our state-of-the art STEAM Academy at Pencoed Campus.

  • 1 year full-time

Have you thought about working in software development or programming? Many computer jobs will experience fast growth, pay salaries well above the national average and offer lots of promotion opportunities.

Jobs such as mobile application developers, software engineers, video game designers and IT Security Specialists are sought after and in high demand.

This course will give you a good foundation to potential pathways leading into the industry.

You will develop a broad range of technical skills such as software programming, multimedia, automated systems and installing and maintaining hardware.

You will also develop employment skills with a full programme of enrichment activities which will enable you to develop and grow as an individual, using those essential interpersonal skills needed for the 21st century employment market.

There are 2 online assessments and all other units have practically-based assignments with a realistic scenario which will underpin the skills and confidence developed during sessions.

There are 3 core units and 5 optional units. In order to achieve the full award, you will have to gain either a Pass, Merit or Distinction for each unit.

  • You will require 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above or proven qualifications at Level 1, which should include Essential Skills qualifications or equivalent at the appropriate level

This course prepares you for employment and provides a sound foundation to progress to a Level 3 Diploma in IT or Enhanced IT programme (a proven ability and Merit / Distinction grades will be required for this level of programme and enhanced criteria may also be applied).

With further study or training, you may also pursue a career as an End User Support Technician or a Trainee IT Support Officer or Technician.

Other pathways include Creative Media at Level 3, employment within the IT sector or an apprenticeship.

There are lots of ways to enrich your studies outside of your main qualification. We have a state-of-the-art digital innovation space Den01 and an esports team that competes nationally.

As a student at Bridgend College, you can be part of our student Digital Champions programme and get hands on with lots of fun and exciting technologies such as robots, drones, virtual reality and more!
