Horticulture

  • 90 Credit Diploma

  • 1 year full-time

There are many opportunities in the horticultural industry as it’s one of the largest employers in the UK. A career in horticulture could mean anything from a hands-on gardener to a research scientist, and can open the door to careers all over the world.

You will visit many organisations to see first-hand what types of businesses might employ you in the future. Our students get involved in the design and build of show gardens and take part in horticultural projects within the campus grounds and in the community.

We have excellent tutors who are experts in the industry, passionate about plants and devoted to your education and development. You will gain skills in practical plant care and develop a good understanding of the horticulture sector.

Modules may include:

  • Plant and soil science
  • Maintain trees and shrubs
  • Advanced turf
  • Advanced propagation
  • Container planting
  • Landscape construction

You will also develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include assignments, practical assessments, presentations and continual class assessment.

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably including English and Maths. Equivalent qualifications are accepted, including a Merit at Level 2
  • Applications welcome from mature students

Successful completion of the first year will result in the Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Horticulture.
