There are many opportunities in the horticultural industry as it’s one of the largest employers in the UK. A career in horticulture could mean anything from a hands-on gardener to a research scientist, and can open the door to careers all over the world.
Our courses will enable you to develop your gardening and landscaping skills, focusing on practical skills in realistic working environments. We have excellent tutors who are experts in the industry, passionate about plants and devoted to your education and development.
Overview and modules
This is a very practical course aimed at those who want an introduction to landscape and garden construction. On successful completion there are options to progress to further courses in construction or horticulture.
This qualification enables you to develop practical skills and knowledge which could be used within employment in the landscaping and horticulture industry.
Modules may include:
- Hard surfaces and paving
- Boundary construction and fencing
- Garden walls and pillars
- Laying, maintaining and repairing lawns
- Hedging maintenance
- Dealing with customers
You will also develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.
Assessment methods
The course will include practical and written assessments.
Entry requirements
- 3 GCSEs at grade D or above (equivalent qualifications are accepted including a Pass at Level 1)
- Applications welcome from mature students
Continue your studies
On successful completion of the course, there is the potential to progress onto a Level 3 programme of study or into employment.
Employment prospects include working within the horticulture and landscape industry or progressing to further learning and/or training including apprenticeships.
