1.48 million people currently work in the social care sector. As people are living longer and older people are needing more care, social care is growing and the sector needs at least another half a million jobs and staff by 2030.
Studying at Level 3, you will benefit from work placement which is a great opportunity to experience working within an existing organisation and see what happens in an actual workplace.
This course is studied alongside the Skills Challenge Certificate of the Welsh Baccalaureate to give you a 3 A Level equivalent programme of study.
Overview and modules
This course is designed to provide a highly specialist work-related qualification in the health and social care sector. You will gain the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare for employment or to progress to higher education.
Modules may include:
- Developing effective communication
- Equality, diversity and rights
- Sociological and psychological perspectives
- Caring for children and young people
- Values and planning
- Personal and professional development (this will involve attending at least 3 work experience placements)
You will also develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.
The awarding body for this qualification is Health & Care Learning Wales.
Assessment methods
You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include assignments, external examinations, case studies and continual class assessment.
Entry requirements
- 5 GCSEs at grade C or above to include English and Maths
- Equivalent qualifications are accepted, including a Merit at Level 2
Continue your studies
Following successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma, continue your studies at university or enter employment within a variety of client groups in residential and day care settings.
