Horse Care

  • Level 2 Technical Certificate

  • 1 year full-time

We have excellent facilities to help you further your studies in the area of horse care, with an emphasis on hands on training to help you really get the full experience. Our facilities include stabling for 30 horses, indoor and outdoor arenas and a cross-country course.

Studying at Level 2, you will benefit from work placement which is a great opportunity to experience working within an existing organisation and see what happens in an actual workplace.

This is a great course if you would like to work in the equine industry and further your education journey.

With both a ‘ride’ option and a ‘non-ride’ alternative, the course caters for all elements of stable management skills. Weekend duties and one day per week working on the stable yards is an integral part of this course.

Areas of learning may include:

  • Equine health and welfare
  • Working in the equine industry
  • Horse tack and equipment
  • Routine stable duties
  • Feeding and watering horses
  • Horse handling and grooming
  • Introduction to lunging
  • Work experience

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which will include assignments, controlled assessments and exams.

  • 3 GCSEs at Grade D or above, including English
  • For the ride option – you will need to demonstrate that you can ride a horse in a balanced and controlled way in walk, trot and canter

This course will enable you to start a career in the equine industry, move onto an apprenticeship or further your studies by taking other qualifications at level 3.
