Aims of the course
Use polite social conventions and simple structures appropriate to the context
- Combine and use simple structures and commonly used expressions
- Demonstrate a range of appropriate courtesies using formal and informal language, eg address, greet and take leave, give compliments, apologise
- Express difficulty and request appropriate action, for example, repeating or slowing down
- Use appropriate pronunciation
Understand and request simple information about places
- Identify at least six places, eg round the town, and their locations
- Request directions to a place, asking whether it is far away
- For each of at least two places, identify the location by following at least three simple directions
- Ask for information about at least two places
- Give at least one requirement for each
- Identify at least two pieces of information given, for example, opening times, facilities or attractions, etc for each
Understand and give simple information related to services and problems
- Ask for help from another person
- Outline a simple, typical problem or complaint
- Ask for basic information about an urgent need, eg a doctor, chemist or other emergency facility
- Identify at least two pieces of information given in response
- Request general and specific information about at least two services or facilities, eg means of transport, leisure activities, excursions etc
- Identify at least two pieces of information given in response to each
Assessment
There will be oral question and answer, along with role play/simulation.
