The department has unique and exciting facilities such as our ‘Forest School’ teaching area and the College’s own Day Nursery, where you will experience cutting edge industry practice and be involved in a range of practical hands-on activities.

Studying at Level 2, you will benefit from work placement which is a great opportunity to experience working within an existing organisation and see what happens in an actual workplace.

You will develop practical skills, underpinned with theory sessions in subjects including Learning through Play, Creativity and Child Development. You will benefit from a work placement within a childcare setting.

There is a keen ethos of skill development, including the development of Welsh Language skills with the opportunity to have some bilingual unit delivery and the option to submit work and be assessed in Welsh.

You will also develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.

The awarding body for this qualification is Health & Care Learning Wales.

Work placement officers will observe your practice in work placement throughout the course where specific criteria must be met. This will require planning and preparation which will be supported by the knowledge you gain at college.

At college, there are 3 externally set case study assessments, a multi-choice test and a theory exam. You will greatly benefit from effective organisation skills.

3 GCSEs at Grade C or above to include English or Maths (alternative equivalent qualifications may be accepted).

After successful completion of the Level 2, a variety of progression opportunities are available:

  • Employment within the sector
  • Applying for a Level 3 Childhood Studies course or alternative Level 3 courses
