Understand cognitive development in childhood
- Describe theories of cognitive development in childhood with reference to empirical research to include Piaget and Bruner
Understand how cognitive development relates to education
- Identify the cognitive factors which influence educational performance
- Describe the application of theories of cognition in childhood to education to include the development of literacy
- Describe how cognitive psychology has influenced the understanding of educational success and failure
Understand the differences between human and non-human play
- Compare human and non-human play
Understand psychological theories relating to play
- Describe psychoanalytic and cognitive theories relating to the functions of play with reference to empirical research
Assessment
Ongoing assessment with evidence of achieving the aims of the course.
