This course was designed to support progression in employment or you can top up your qualifications to a BSc (Hons) degree with additional part-time study. The course was designed with employers and professional body representatives to ensure that students develop as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers.
Overview and modules
The facilities provide an extensive range of industry standard equipment, resources and livestock developed with employers to meet the exacting demands of modern agricultural standards and processes.
Bridgend College has an array of on-site resources to deliver this course, including 110 acres of pasture land. Agreements have also been procured with 3 local farms to ensure constant access to a variety of livestock and farming systems, and the college is situated in the heart of some of the most productive agricultural ground in South Wales.
Assessment methods
You will be assessed through a variety of methods such as practical portfolios, exams, assignments, presentations, reports and case studies.
Entry requirements
You will need:
- 2 A levels at grade D OR
- BTEC Extended Diploma at PPP OR
- A pass in an Access to HE Diploma to include passes in 45 level 3 credits, in relevant subjects (or other equivalent qualifications)
- Plus 3 GCSEs at grade C or above, to include Maths and English (or other equivalent qualifications)
Mature applicants lacking formal entry requirements but with relevant and/or industrial experience will also be considered. You may be invited to attend an interview.
Continue your studies
Following successful completion of the HND, you can progress to the BSc (Hons) Landscape Studies (top-up) at the University of South Wales or gain employment within the sector in a number of disciplines such as herdsman, farm manager, agronomist, consultant, retailer, nutritionist, sales, insurance and training.
Whilst at college, you can also gain a suite of practical Lantra and NPTC awards to improve employability prospects.
