Aromatherapy VTCT Level 3 Diploma

This qualification is based on the complementary therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional association, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing you for a career as an aromatherapist.

This is a substantial vocational qualification which will prepare you for a career as an aromatherapist or add to existing beauty or complementary therapy qualifications. This qualification is designed for those aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as an aromatherapist.

It includes all the required elements to work effectively as an aromatherapist including the following mandatory units:

  • Knowledge and understanding of complementary therapy concepts
  • Business practice
  • Anatomy, physiology and pathology for complementary therapies

You will also develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and essential oils. You will develop a range of technical skills enabling you to blend essential oils in a tailor-made fashion for each client and provide relaxing aromatherapy massage treatments using different massage techniques. You will also develop interpersonal skills which will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

Assessment is by portfolio evidence, practical assessments, case studies and examinations.

You need to be aged 16 and above and have an interest in the subject.

This qualification will confirm your competence for employment as an aromatherapist. You will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as an aromatherapist. Career opportunities as an aromatherapist exist in a variety of contexts, including working in:

  • Commercial complementary therapy clinics
  • Commercial spa or salon
  • The NHS in hospitals and care homes
  • Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
