We have excellent facilities to help you further your studies in the area of animal care, with an emphasis on hands on training to help you get the full experience. Facilities include a range of small, large and exotic animals within our Animal Care Centre, scientific laboratory and a fully equipped veterinary nursing area.

This course is ideal if you are looking for a career in the animal care industry or want to prove your competence in an associated role, increasing your opportunities to progress in the sector. You may also be looking for a qualification to prepare you for progression to Level 3 qualifications.

Topics areas may include:

  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of basic animal training programmes
  • Control and restrain animals
  • Maintain the cleanliness and biosecurity of the animal care working environment
  • Provide opportunities for animals to have freedom to exercise
  • Prepare and groom animals
  • Prepare feed for animals

The awarding body for this qualification is City & Guilds.

You will learn on the job within the work environment. Assessment will also take place in the workplace and include written evidence to meet the criteria of the qualification.

2 GCSEs at Grade D.

This qualification can help you progress in a wide range of animal care roles including:

  • Animal technician
  • Assistant dog trainer
  • Dog handler
  • Kennel worker
  • Pet shop assistant

Successful completion of this course will also provide opportunities to continue your academic journey towards level 3.
