Studying Agriculture at Level 3, you will benefit from work placement which is a great opportunity to experience working within an existing organisation and see what happens in an actual workplace.

You will gain a combination of practical skills and theoretical insight into the various aspects of agriculture to be able to further your career within the industry or higher education.

There is a strong emphasis on practical training and applied knowledge throughout the course which is combined with lectures, field trips, guest speakers and visits.

Units include:

  • Beef and sheep production
  • Dairy production
  • Grass and forage crop production
  • Plant and soil science
  • Work experience
  • Estate skills
  • Breeding and nutrition
  • Farm business management
  • Farm mechanisation

Many sessions are delivered on working farms in the area where you will put into practice the knowledge gained in ‘real farm’ environments.

You will also develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.

The awarding body for this qualification is City & Guilds.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include scenario based assignments, practical assessments, case studies, presentations and continual class assessment.

You will also be advised of opportunities to gain practical proficiency certificates (NPTC, LANTRA) in areas such as chainsaw use, brush cutter strimmer, and tractor driving.

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably including English and Maths. Equivalent qualifications are accepted including a Merit at Level 2.

Successful completion of Year 1 will enable you to achieve the Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Agriculture.

Progress to Year 2 to achieve the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture.

Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Extended Diploma, progress to the HND Agriculture which is delivered at Pencoed Campus and / or gain employment within the industry.
