Update on face coverings for learners

I hope that you are settling in well to life at Bridgend College.

I wanted to take a moment to update you on our expectations about wearing a face covering on campus. The Welsh Government and Public Health Wales have outlined their expectation for schools, colleges and local authorities in Wales to manage and assess Coronavirus risks locally – this is to prevent further widespread restrictions or lockdown requirements. We are starting to see other local areas in Wales increase their alert risk level due to case numbers rising, with local restrictions and requirements being reintroduced.

Our ultimate duty and aim is to keep you safe and to keep you learning. Since the start of term, our requirement and expectation relating to the wearing of face coverings in indoor communal area has been simple:

Standing up → Wear a face covering
Sitting down → You can remove your face covering (if you want to)

If you are someone who has followed this simple expectation – thank you.

When you joined Bridgend College, you signed up to our Citizenship expectations as part of our Learning Programme Promise – to be Ready, Respectful and Safe.

I need you to show your respect, by wearing a face covering in any communal area when you are standing up or walking around. If you are using a college bus, you must also wear a face covering whilst travelling. Please help play your part in keeping the Bridgend College community safe.

If you are exempt from wearing a face covering, you must wear one of our face covering exemption cards on your lanyard – this helps us and others to be respectful of your exemption. If you need to submit an exemption request, you can do so by visiting the Coronavirus FAQ on the college website.

Remember, you can collect free lateral flow devices to support with regular Coronavirus testing from campus receptions and Student Services. If you need a test and are unable to attend a campus due to symptoms, you can order a test by calling 119 or by visiting: www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

Thank you for your support
