Glitzy awards ceremony for talented learners

We were extremely proud to have recently held our biggest event of the year, the 2019 Annual Awards Ceremony, sponsored by Sony UK Technology Centre, at our onsite Sony Theatre.

It was an evening to celebrate the achievement of learners from the 2018-2019 academic year and to recognise everyone who has played a role in their success such as parents, guardians, family and College staff.

Of the 23 learners receiving highly regarded curriculum awards, 2 learners also achieved additional awards which were announced on the night. Nia Davies, Learner of the Year in Art, Design and Media, received the award for Commitment to Study whilst Edward Haste, winner of the Work-based Learner Award, received the overall College Learner of the Year Award.

Nia has recently accepted a Talent and Excellence scholarship at Bath Spa University, being the first member of her family to go to university.

Edward worked extremely hard to secure his apprenticeship in construction – a three year course which he completed in two – due to his sheer determination. He was then put forward to compete in regional heats in a build-off competition with other colleges.

This is a terrific achievement for both learners, both being described by their tutors as exceptional students who have achieved so much in the past year.

Learners from the College’s Performing Arts department opened the event with a fantastic dance piece and closed the event with a performance from their most recent production, Into the Woods.

Thanks and appreciation was given on the night to the following award sponsors:
