Calling all young carers and young adult carers

It’s Carers Week this week and here at Bridgend College, we support the campaign to #MakeCaringVisible. Many people are caring for family or friends unpaid. Though it’s impossible to put a price on the care they provide, the value of the care that unpaid carers in the UK provide is estimated at £132 billion a year – roughly 16 times the cost of NHS Wales.

Carers Trust has launched a survey to find out how young carers aged up to 25 have been affected by Coronavirus, and what support they need.

The findings of the survey will help to influence and inform the Welsh Government and other decision-makers, making sure that young carers and young adult carers are more able to get the support they need.

Carers Trust Wales is aiming to make sure that at least 500 young and young adult carers complete the survey before it closes on 23 June 2020.

Please take 10 minutes to complete the survey and encourage other young and young adult carers to do the same. Your experiences and thoughts really matter. Carers Trust Wales will make sure that the findings of the survey are used to help improve the support available for young and young adult carers.

The English language version of the survey can be found here and the Welsh language version can be found here.

If you are a carer and need support, get in touch with us at wellbeing@bridgend.ac.uk or contact Bridgend Carers Centre.

If you have any questions about the survey, please email wales@carers.org.
