Bridgend College Principal Awarded OBE
Bridgend College is proud to announce that Principal and CEO, Simon Pirotte, has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours List 2021. Simon has been awarded this prestigious title for his services to Further and Higher Education. This award is a reflection of Simon’s exemplary leadership at the College, where he has been Principal since 2013. Under Simon’s leadership, the College achieved an “excellent” outcome in its last Estyn inspection, as well as being announced as the Times Educational Supplement FE College of the Year in 2019. Simon has also been recognised nationally, as Director of the Year in the Public/Third Sector by the Institute of Directors (IoD).
Simon, a former pupil of Morriston Comprehensive School in Swansea, has made a significant impact throughout his career having worked in the school, FE and HE sectors. With a background in Performing Arts, Simon is still committed to inspiring young people and continues to teach at the College.
On receiving the news of his OBE, Simon shared his thoughts:
“I am very humbled to achieve this recognition. I work with the most extraordinary colleagues at Bridgend College, and throughout my career I have been fortunate to work alongside brilliant people in the school, FE and HE sectors.
I would like to dedicate this honour to my wonderful sister, Sylvia. My father died when I was 9 years old and she has made many sacrifices throughout her life to enable me to be all that I could be. Her compassion and love is completely selfless and I am eternally grateful to her.”
