Construction is a wide-ranging profession with many disciplines in the industry. This course offers an insight into the construction industry ranging from the initial planning stage through the design and building process of housing, industrial and commercial buildings.
This is an ideal course if you are looking to become Architect, Building Surveyor, Construction Manager, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveyor or any other professional or technician career pathway within the Construction sector.
Subject areas include:
Construction technology and design – covers the planning process, design process and methods of construction for both houses and commercial buildings
Science and materials in construction – gain understanding of heat, light and sound in connection to building requirements, structural members and loading, construction materials specifications and properties
Maths in construction – use mathematical techniques and methods to manipulate and / or solve formulae, equations and algebraic expressions
Surveying in construction – use surveying equipment to carry out field surveys and produce plans
Health, safety and welfare in construction – understand the responsibilities of employers and empoyees, along with the control measures used to reduce risk and meet legal requirements
Sustainable construction – learn about the features of the natural environment which need to be protected and understand how activities of the construction and built environment sector impact on the natural environment
5 GCSEs (grades A* – C), including English, Maths and Science
Level 2 Diploma in a relevant subject, plus GCSE English, Maths and Science with at least Grade C
The course is assessed through a combination of coursework activities (both individual and group exercises), practical work assignments and case studies. All units are assessed and graded, with an overall grade awarded for the qualification.
Progress to Higher Education study to enhance work opportunities as an Architect, Building Surveyor, Construction Manager, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveyor or any other professional or technician career pathway within the Construction sector.
