You will study the all-round development and progress of children aged 0 – 16 years, including issues affecting children, their parents and carers. Units include Health, Education and Social Studies. You will undertake practical placements within a range of childcare settings.
Modules may include:
Understanding child and young person development
Promoting learning and development in Early Years
You will also develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.
5 GCSEs at grade C or above, must include English and preferably Mathematics (equivalent qualifications are accepted including CACHE at Level 2)
You will be assessed continually throughout the course, with assignments, portfolio of work and an external task and test. There is also continuous assessment within the childcare placement.
Successful completion of Year 2 will enable you to progress to a variety of Higher Education courses, some of which are available with Bridgend College. Possible careers include working as a fully qualified Early Years worker in a Nursery, Day Nursery, Hospital or Workplace Creche.
