Bridgend College supporting A Dog’s Trail with Snoopy
Bridgend College is delighted to be supporting A Dog’s Trail with Snoopy, an artistic outdoor trail around Porthcawl taking place from 8 April to 5 June this year.
Working alongside Wild in Art, and Bridgend County Borough, Snoopy, Charlie Brown’s sidekick from the cartoon strip Peanuts, will be the star attraction of the trail. The trail in Porthcawl will feature six super-sized Snoopy sculptures designed by local artists, as well as three miniature Snoopy sculptures designed by local schools. There will also be a trail in Cardiff and Caerphilly. You can view the locations of all Snoopy sculptures on A Dog’s Trail website.
A Dog’s Trail will create an outdoor gallery offering a colourful display of art across Porthcawl, as well as supporting the community, tourism and local economy. The associated learning programme will also ensure that children from local schools can get involved.
Dogs Trust, which has a rehoming centre in Bridgend, is working with Bridgend County Borough Council to host this trail, with the giant Snoopy sculptures auctioned off at the end of the campaign to raise funds to support them to continue to improve dog welfare in Wales and beyond.
Bridgend College’s Snoopy sculpture will be creatively designed by Cardiff based artist Joe Davies who specialises in drawing and painting, but experiments with several mediums and disciplines. Joe’s design, Kintsugi, is based on mental wellbeing, something that Bridgend College is passionate about supporting. The decoration and patterning represent mindfulness and appreciating the beauty of nature using our senses. The golden cracks and veins wrapping around the sculpture represent the Japanese art and philosophy of Kintsugi, the act of mending broken pottery with gold to embrace the beauty of its imperfection.
We are excited to be sponsoring this fantastic initiative in Porthcawl. We are proud to support a cause that will make a difference in our community while encouraging people to explore our beautiful surroundings and have fun at the same time.
